About Miss Maria
Welcome to Spanish Mastery with Miss Maria!
I'm Miss Maria, a proud Peruvian educator and the founder of Spanish Mastery. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language and Literature: Teacher Preparation in Spanish and a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) in Teaching Spanish from Stony Brook University. I also hold a Foreign Language in the Elementary School (FLES) Certification, which has further prepared me to provide developmentally appropriate, engaging, and effective language instruction for elementary learners. My academic preparation, specialized training, and years of teaching experience allow me to provide structured, engaging, and meaningful Spanish instruction for learners of all ages and proficiency levels.
Growing up in Peru gave me a deep appreciation for the Spanish language and the rich diversity of Hispanic cultures. For me, Spanish is more than a subject—it is identity, connection, and opportunity. It is a way to build meaningful relationships, explore new cultures, and open doors to endless possibilities. That belief continues to inspire every lesson I teach.
My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that every student is capable of learning Spanish when they are supported, challenged, and encouraged in the right environment. My goal is to create lessons that are engaging, meaningful, and centered on authentic communication, allowing students to build confidence while enjoying the learning process.
I strive to create a classroom where students feel welcomed, respected, and comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and celebrating their progress. Learning a language should be both academically enriching and personally rewarding, and I want every student to leave class feeling more confident than when they arrived.
My teaching extends beyond grammar and vocabulary. I want students to develop communication skills, cultural awareness, curiosity, critical thinking, and the confidence to use Spanish in authentic, everyday situations. My hope is that every student experiences Spanish as a living language that connects people, cultures, and communities.
