PROFICIENCY LEVELS OVERVIEW
At Spanish Mastery with Miss María, every student follows a carefully structured learning pathway designed to develop confidence, accuracy, and real communication skills.
Our program is divided into internationally recognized proficiency levels (A1–C2) and aligned with ACTFL proficiency standards to ensure measurable growth and clear learning objectives at every stage.
Each level is organized into progressive modules and intentionally designed to strengthen grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency through guided instruction and real-world communication practice.
Whether you are beginning from zero or refining advanced fluency, every level provides a clear roadmap toward confident and meaningful Spanish communication.

Every student completes a written and speaking placement assessment to ensure proper level placement and the best possible learning experience.
Level A1 – Beginner
ACTFL Equivalent: Novice Low – Novice Mid
Modules: A1.1 • A1.2 • A1.3
Who Is This Level For?
Students with little to no prior Spanish experience.
What You Will Learn:
• Essential pronunciation and speaking foundations
• Greetings, introductions, and everyday expressions
• Numbers, dates, time, and personal information
• Family, hobbies, food, and daily vocabulary
• Present tense regular verbs
• Essential irregular verbs (ser, estar, tener, ir)
• Asking and answering basic questions
• Building confidence through guided beginner conversations
By the End of This Level, Students Will Be Able To:
Introduce themselves, ask and answer simple questions, describe basic personal information, and communicate in familiar, predictable situations with growing confidence.
Level A2 – Elementary
ACTFL Equivalent: Novice High
Modules: A2.1 • A2.2 • A2.3 • A2.4
Who Is This Level For?
Students with a basic foundation in Spanish who want greater independence in communication.
What You Will Learn:
• Expanded everyday vocabulary
• Reflexive verbs and daily routines
• Present and beginning past tense usage
• Describing experiences and preferences
• Giving directions and making plans
• Asking more detailed questions
• Longer sentence formation and comprehension
• Greater speaking confidence in practical situations
By the End of This Level, Students Will Be Able To:
Participate in everyday conversations, describe experiences, discuss routines, and communicate with greater clarity and independence.
Level B1 – Intermediate
ACTFL Equivalent: Intermediate Low – Intermediate Mid
Modules: B1.1 • B1.2 • B1.3 • B1.4 • B1.5
Who Is This Level For?
Students who already understand basic Spanish and are ready to communicate with greater independence and confidence.
What You Will Learn:
• Greater control of present, past, and future communication
• Preterite and imperfect tenses in real-life contexts
• Expressing opinions, preferences, and personal experiences
• Narrating events with greater detail and clarity
• Expanding vocabulary for travel, health, work, relationships, and everyday situations
• More spontaneous conversations with reduced hesitation
• Reading and discussing authentic materials
• Writing connected paragraphs with stronger organization
By the End of This Level, Students Will Be Able To:
Communicate more independently, express opinions, narrate experiences, sustain conversations in real-world settings, and interact with greater fluency and confidence.
Level B2 – Upper Intermediate
